rtkids.org - A National Online Gallery of Children's artwork
Opening school Art Departments and sharing children's achievements with their friends, family and the wider academic community is really the essence of the rtkids.org project.

My own school's mission statement: 'Learning Together for Success' seems very fitting, as pupils using the site respond positively to other pupils work, often with a deep amount of respect for their peers' endeavours.  I believe it can enrich a child's experience in so many ways, providing a greater sense of how their own abilities compare to children of similar and indeed older ages.  Alongside stimulating their imagination I think it will also encourage them to explore the nation's and other countries' Art treasures online.

The project is entirely free to join, please give it a go and monitor your pupil's response to it.  If you decide to take part, I would be fascinated to discover your experience and how it impacts on your pupils' learning.

Lincoln Artists' Market
Artists and designer/makers are invited to take part in a new sales initiative for summer 2008, organised by Lincoln Business Improvement Group (Lincoln BIG). One-day Artists’ Markets, featuring high quality contemporary art will take place on the last Sunday of every month, between June – September 2008, creating a highly visible ‘shop window’ for the best visual artists in the county.

Situated right in the heart of Lincoln’s Cultural Quarter, near to The Collection, Usher Gallery and new Terrace studio complex; the Artists’ Market will attract attention from visitors to Lincoln Cathedral and Castle as well as the fine specialist shops in this area of the city.

Artists
Established and up-and-coming artists are invited to apply. Applicants will be selected in order to ensure work of comparable quality throughout the market. Lincoln BIG seeks to create a lively ambiance with high-quality unique work created by artist/makers from the county.

Further details of the selection criteria will be available to artists who express an interest in taking part. In brief, we wish to achieve a balance between saleability of work and a range of visual artforms on display, with work that demonstrates a high standard of making, attention to detail and use of good quality materials. We will be looking for confident, creative work which is original, one-off or small production-run and created from start to finish by the artist.

We define ‘established artists’ as those who have been running their business for 2 years or more. We define ‘up and coming (or emerging) artists’ as those who are recent graduates or who have set up their business in the last 2 years.

The dates
In 2008 the market will take place between 10am – 4pm on:

Sunday 29 June
Sunday 27 July
Sunday 31 August
Sunday 28 September

The site
The Market will be situated at the junction between The Strait, Steep Hill and Danes Terrace (which leads to The Collection). Gently sloping in parts, the
site will benefit from purpose-designed new market stalls where necessary to ensure a level display area. Stalls will be canopied for weather protection.

Stalls will be 3 metres wide with a depth of approximately 1 metre.
Stalls will be available from 9am on the morning of each event.

Fees
Specially discounted rates are available for artists booking two or more events. The June market is FREE for all stall-holders booking another 2 dates between July – September.

Established artists:
Single event - £40
Two or more events - £30 each

Emerging artists:
Single event - £20
Two or more events - £15 each

Artists will be required to provide a £20 deposit with their booking form.

No commission on sales will be charged.

Further details on fees / cancellation / wet weather waiver are covered in the event Terms and Conditions.

Marketing
Lincoln BIG runs almost 200 days of successful events each year. The Lincoln Artists’ Market series will be supported by a publicity campaign including posters/flyers and banners, alongside direct media contact with printed press, radio and television. The events will feature on the Lincoln BIG website (www.lincolnbig.co.uk) with a dedicated URL to aid navigation.

Young People's Fund 2
On 19 May 2008, the Big Lottery Fund launched the second round of the Young People's Fund programme.

Up to £38 million is available over the next two years to support projects across England where young people lead from start to finish. We expect a high demand for this programme and will only consider projects that are youth-led.

We want to fund projects where young people are fully involved and improvements are made to young people's services. We also want to support work to increase understanding of young people's needs and create further opportunities for involvement in things that affect young people's lives.

The project must help you and other young people:

· be more mentally and physically healthy
· stay safe from harm
· enjoy life and get things done
· make a positive difference to the people around you
· be better off by having enough money to be independent, by improving your skills, reducing your debts, or getting a job.

The programme is open to voluntary and community sector organisations. It will offer grants of between £10,000 and £500,000 to support activities and services lasting between 1 and 5 years. Organisations can apply for up to £50,000 to develop land or buildings. The land and building developments should cost no more than £200,000 in total.

Further information can be found on our website:

www.biglotteryfund.org.uk/ypf2local

Here you will also find an information leaflet which can be downloaded. I have attached a copy to this email.

The deadline for outline proposals is 16 October 2008.

Turning the Tables
Turning The Tables
A two-day conference exploring the progression and future of community and participatory arts in the UK

The conference will take place at the Assembly Rooms in Derby and at venues around the East Midlands on the 18th and 19th September 2008. It is a collaborative initiative between mailout and the East Midlands Participatory Arts Forum (EMPAF).

The conference will explore what we currently need and what issues affect us as a sector. It will explore the pressures that we are under and the possibilities which are on offer. We will look at how we can work together to re-establish that sense of connection we had as a creative led sector and the distinctiveness we once enjoyed as a movement dedicated to social change.

It will provide an opportunity for practitioners and supporters at different levels to share perspectives on the work, develop more effective information exchange and to re-kindle the enthusiasm and sense of purpose, the fire behind the work.

This conference is an opportunity to begin raising the profile of the work from the basis of its intrinsic values and to create a new identity for the independent sector. We plan to use this opportunity to bring together practitioners and their allies to renew a common cause and provide the focal point for a stronger and more coherent voice for our work.

One of the aims of this conference is to begin a more focused debate to define the future as we would like to see it and provide the ammunition for us to put our case to significant funding and decision making bodies. Discussions throughout the event will focus on how we articulate this with the rate of change we are currently experiencing.

Day 1 of the conference will include visits to different community/participatory arts organisations in the region to look at some of their work and the context in which they operate, alongside practical presentations. The visits will also include targeted themes for discussion to get the second day of the conference off to an energised start.

Day 2 will include key-note speakers, practical break-out sessions, a panel discussion and opportunities for debate, discussion and networking.

Fees:
Public sector: £235
Arts Council regularly funded organisations: £180
Non-funded organisations: £140
Individuals: £ 40
