Art and Design Conference News
This year's Art and Design conference, 'Innovate and Inspire', proved a huge success for all involved. Isabella Wallace and Leah Kirkman delivered an excellent practical session based on their popular book 'Pimp your Lesson'. This included upbeat approaches to starters and plenaries with an art based twist, delegates took on the role of pupils and really got into the swing of things by playing 'keyword pass the parcel', teamwork drawing, 'secret admirers' and even an activity inspired by Sesame Street's Cookie Monster!
Hats on Heads then took to floor armed with mannequins, mood boards and a lorry load of recyclable materials. The challenge was to create five entire outfits made from unwanted materials based on different genres - all in an hour! everyone rose to the task and produced some truly fabulous designs.
At lunchtime the Moveable Museum of Found Objects a.k.a. Katie Smith's spectacular caravan, opened it's doors. Katie's projects frequently centre around found and obscure objects, the caravan proving a perfect showcase of the treasures that others have found on their travels. Katie also delivered a presentation on the origins of her work and the fascinating projects she has collaborated with.
The day ended with practical workshops and the delegates went off to work with their chosen artist and artform. Wayne Lockwood with paper construction, Nicki Jarvis and embellished feltmaking and Katie Smith altering found objects - so many people were completely engrossed in their creations that the whole day finished later than expected!
Many thanks to all who attended and helped make it such an enjoyable day - really looking forward to next years!
