The LAFTAs

What is The LAFTAs?

Pupils from all over Lincolnshire will descend on The Engine Shed on Monday 17th October to attend the LAFTAs Film Awards Ceremony – a prestigious event showcasing the talents of the county’s young film makers. The black tie event, which is delighted to announce an emerging partnership with 20th Century Fox, is now in its 5th year and this anniversary is shaping up to be a real celebration with more short film and animations than ever before.

The LAFTAs Film Awards inspires, showcases and importantly celebrates the work of Lincolnshire pupils who have been involved in the art of film making in school. The quality of the work produced by the pupils has continued to impress our Patron Jim Broadbent who whilst on the set of his new film commented: “I’ve seen a lot of the films this year and I have been so impressed. They are really brilliant showing great skill and imagination. The films show lots of different and exciting ways to tell a huge variety of stories. ”

Jim Broadbent has been involved as Patron of the event since it began in 2007 and his continued support not to mention his glittering career is a fantastic incentive for the young people of Lincolnshire

The LAFTAs Film Awards Ceremony is supported by a number of sponsors all of whom contribute equipment to winning schools to ensure that film making and the engagement with creative media arts continues in our schools.

During the summer a team of professionals drawn from the film industry and education which included The Royal Albert Hall, Film Education local filmmakers Electric Egg all worked hard to create the shortlist of films that will be celebrated at the event. Winners will be announced on the night and will take home a unique trophy that has been designed and manufactured by the pupils of Sleaford St George’s Academy with the help of internationally renowned sculptor Roger Lee

Councillor Bradwell commented:

“I am delighted that year on year we are able to recognise and celebrate the achievements of so many of our talented young people here in Lincolnshire. The fact that this event which is now in its fifth year shows how dedicated and committed we are to supporting the development of creative skills in our young people.”
